wedding dress sugar cookies

Last Sunday several of us hosted a bridal shower for a sweet girl getting married in a couple of months. Instead of cake or petit fours I decided to do sugar cookies designed like wedding gowns. Here a couple of the more than 40 designs.  For presentation I stacked 3 Styrofoam disks (used for "fake cakes") and covered it with brown satin and gold ribbon (the brides colors). Placing the cookies around the stack gave it a wedding cake effect and a pretty centerpiece.

birthday cake

Last year I had the honor of making a birthday cake for a sweet lady celebrating her 90th birthday. She loved the cake and wanted to save a slice to freeze for her 91st birthday. Knowing a slice won't freeze as well I told her to eat her slice and I would make her a small cake for her 91st birthday the following year. Well, here it is.  The roses and leaves are made of modeling chocolate and the sides are decorate with a white chocolate lace effect.

For our granddaughter's 3rd birthday she wanted a Max and Ruby party. I decided to try out using modeling chocolate to make the cake 3D. It was a lot easier to work with than fondant and tastes better too. The number 3 is a sugar cookie but all other decorations are modeling chocolate.
