Beach Themed Cake: This was so fun to make. I used graham cracker crumbs for the sand (MUCH better tasting than brown sugar that I've seen on other blogs.) All the decorations were sugar cookies and the "fence posts" were those rolled cookies that come in a tin. I just cut them to different lengths. The drink and umbrella were purchased but I used candy melts inside the mini martini glass to resemble a cool summer time drink.

School House Sugar Cookies

More fun with decorating sugar cookies. This time for end of the year teacher gifts. One of a kind and edible too! Most of the cookie cutter can be purchased but I did re-purpose a couple of them; the School House is a "Church Bldg" cutter and for the Bottle of Glue I used a Baby Bottle cutter. The Crayons I hand cut since they were all straight lines. Since the School Bus and School House were pretty big (and heavy) cookies I used extra sugar cookie dough and made rectangles to "glue" to the backs of them using royal icing. This helped to secure the sticks.

For the flower pot I used a 6" tall clay pot and spray painted it with Chalk Board Paint. I found the cute ABCD ribbon at a craft store along with the red ribbon glued behind it.

EasterEgg Cookies

I made about 200 of these Easter Egg Sugar Cookies last week for family and friends. I think decorating sugar cookies is my new favorite thing...although cleaning the layers of powdered sugar dust in the kitchen today has me rethinking

Easter Egg Cake Balls

Making

Making cake balls is super easy. Bake a cake in a 9x13 greased pan. Any flavor. When the cake comes out of the oven pour it into a large bowl and shred the cake into fine crumbs. Add between 1/2-3/4 cup of frosting (compliment the cake flavor. Ex. Chocolate cake=chocolate icing, red velvet cake=cream cheese icing, etc). Let the cake and icing mixture cool to room temp and form into 1"-1 1/2" balls. (I formed these into ovals since I wanted them egg shaped) Place on parchment lined baking sheet and freeze 6-8 hrs or overnight. Heat chocolate or use Wilton Baking Chips and coat the cake balls. Return to parchment sheet. They will set up pretty quickly as the frozen cake adheres to the warm chocolate. They will stay in the refrigerator up to a week or so or freeze and take them out when you  need them. For these I used the leftover baking chips to decorate/drizzle over the "eggs".

I had the pleasure of making both the bride's and groom's cake for a wedding this past weekend. Bride's cake was a White Vanilla Velvet Cake with Raspberry filling and a Vanilla Buttercream icing. Groom's cake was a Dark Chocolate Cake with a Whipped Chocolate Ganache Filling and a Chocolate Butter Cream.

Cornelli lace cake

This cake was made for our Church's anniversary celebration. Vanilla cake with raspberry filling and a cornelli lace technique. Adding a red ribbon border brightens it up. The logo was done with a sugar sheet and added that morning. I've found that if I use the sugar sheets the day before they tend to bleed. Either way make sure that the sugar sheet is placed on frosting that has set up and hardened; less bleeding.

wedding dress sugar cookies

Last Sunday several of us hosted a bridal shower for a sweet girl getting married in a couple of months. Instead of cake or petit fours I decided to do sugar cookies designed like wedding gowns. Here a couple of the more than 40 designs.  For presentation I stacked 3 Styrofoam disks (used for "fake cakes") and covered it with brown satin and gold ribbon (the brides colors). Placing the cookies around the stack gave it a wedding cake effect and a pretty centerpiece.

birthday cake

Last year I had the honor of making a birthday cake for a sweet lady celebrating her 90th birthday. She loved the cake and wanted to save a slice to freeze for her 91st birthday. Knowing a slice won't freeze as well I told her to eat her slice and I would make her a small cake for her 91st birthday the following year. Well, here it is.  The roses and leaves are made of modeling chocolate and the sides are decorate with a white chocolate lace effect.

For our granddaughter's 3rd birthday she wanted a Max and Ruby party. I decided to try out using modeling chocolate to make the cake 3D. It was a lot easier to work with than fondant and tastes better too. The number 3 is a sugar cookie but all other decorations are modeling chocolate.
